CLUB MISSION
The Mission of the Rotary Club of Albina is to be a catalyst for change in the neighborhoods of North and Northeast Portland. The clubs strength is a diverse interracial membership of men and women committed to the future of the Albina community, its organizations, its educational institutions and above all, its youth. Lastly, Albina Rotarians believe that a healthy future for our community depends on giving our citizens leadership, opportunity and excellence in all we do.
CLUB HISTORY
The Rotary organization was founded in Chicago in 1905 as the world’s first volunteer service club. Rotary quickly expanded around the world The Albina Rotary Club was chartered in April of 1981. Our initial membership consisted of 31 men dedicated to the betterment of our community. In 1988, women were admitted to Rotary and a local icon, Dolly Bowman, the principal at Jefferson High School was our first female member. Today our membership includes individuals representing all races creeds and colors. We believe that our club should truly look like America.
